What is Crane Wheel Gnawing Rail?

Time : 2023-03-10

Usually there is a certain gap between the crane wheel flange and the side of the rail, and they will not touch under normal operating conditions. As a result, the phenomenon of crane wheel gnawing rail occurs.

Manifestations of Crane Wheel Gnawing Rail Phenomenon

  1. There are spots on the side of the crane rail or the inner side of the wheel rim, and in severe cases, there are burrs or iron filings on the marks.
  2. When the crane is running, the gap between the wheel flange and the rail changes significantly in a short distance.
  3. During the operation of the crane, the crane is skewed and the wheels are deflected.
  4. When the crane is running, it will make a louder "hiss~" rail gnawing sound.
  5. When the crane wheel gnaws the rails very seriously, the crane will make a "squeak~" impact sound when it is running, and even rail climbing will occur.

Consequences of Crane Wheel Gnawing Rail

1. Shorten the life of the crane wheel.

Under normal circumstances, the crane wheels of intermediate (A4~A5) working level cranes can be used for more than 15 years; the wheels of heavy (A6~A8) and metallurgical cranes can be used for about 8 years. However, for some cranes with severe rail gnawing, the wheels can only be used for 1 to 2 years or even a few months.

2. Accelerate track wear.

Sideways forces from rail gnawing can displace the rail until it becomes unusable.

3. Increase running resistance.

Increase the power consumption of the motor and the transmission load of the mechanism.

4. The load condition of the plant deteriorates.

Flagcrane have a professional technical team, which can design and produce standard and non-standard crane hoist and spare parts. If there are other special requirements. it can be customize according to user needs and negotiate by both parties.
